about
Pulling Back the Curtains is my first solo single. It is a transcendental folk rock song about transmutation; written between July 2019 and January 2020 in Nevada City, Summer Lake, and Portland.
The song continually seems like it is from the future: each time I sing it it feels more relevant to how I am presently feeling than it was when I wrote it; a little cosmic fiber to hold onto as we are tugged through history by the end state of our ultimate manifestation. As I share this I hope that it can similarly shine some humble light on your life
In my abyss I see there now hangs a ladder
Has it been waiting all this time?
My limbs are tight from their long fetal contraction
Yet still remember how to climb
A crested hilltop opens to fertile valley
where soon the sun is set to rise
From this tall vantage point, a glimpse of new pastures;
a place my seedlings my survive
In running from my demons
I've run from angels too
But I'm pulling back the curtains
so the light can shine on through
I used to pinch myself whilst living through nightmares
to see if I was still alive
"Could I be dreaming still?" I wonder enraptured
at the quick changing of the tides
In running from my demons
I've run from angels too
But I'm pulling back the curtains
So the light can shine on through
In running from my demons
I've run from angels too
But I won't concede to darkness
I won't concede to darkness
I won't concede to darkness
As the light comes shining through
